Adnan is a professor of Medieval Mediterranean and Islamic World History at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Currently, he serves as Director of its School of Religion and oversees the Muslim Societies-Global Perspectives project. He is host of The Majlis and co-host of Guerrilla History podcasts.
